Managing the Implementation of Container Terminal Automation

The author has decided to develop a feasibility analysis for Hanjin Shipping terminal to aid in the decision process for accommodating larger ships entering the Port of Long Beach/Los Angeles. With ship sizes increasing terminal container cranes are unable to support operations; therefore, the terminal must address the issue by raising the height of current container cranes or purchasing automated container cranes. Both options require the terminal to refocus their management and maintenance strategies to prepare for industry developments in technology. Following the terminal's decision the student has devised a strategic plan for the terminal on how they will manage and develop their staff for success when implementing changes to the organization. The student believes his plan will help to prepare Hanjin Shipping's Maintenance Department, thus allowing the terminal to continue providing the most efficient and reliable services to their customers. The action plan will demonstrate methodologies learned from the student's coursework in the graduate program, present research from industry-leading experts, and incorporate knowledge and experience the student has gained in his professional career.
